What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in Salt Lake City always tells you about how our team of experts are NATE-certified, and while it sounds comforting, what does it truly mean?

NATE stands for North American Technician Excellence and, as mentioned on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed nearly 20 years ago and is supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not everyone in the industry is required to be certified by NATE. The certification is discretionary and technicians can provide heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration services without being NATE-certified.

It’s important to Service Experts that our team is NATE-certified to make sure we are sending the most qualified and skilled technicians into your home. To make sure technicians meet these criteria, the NATE-certification assessments validate real-world working knowledge of HVACR systems for technicians. The assessments are knowledge-based tests that assess the technician’s knowledge of these criteria.

Since Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification (not refrigeration), there are only particular areas pertinent to our technicians. NATE assessment candidates may earn installation and/or service certification in one or more of the talent areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating
  • Oil Heating
  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
  • Hydronics Oil (service only)
  • Light Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
  • Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
  • Ground Source Heat Pump Loop Installer
  • Senior HVAC Efficiency Analyst

You can be confident the technicians at Service Experts to be highly skilled and professional to do the project right the first time. Our team has the knowledge and training to not only repair and service your HVAC systems, but to take the best care of your equipment.
