Common Salt Lake City AC Problems and Solutions Published on June 13, 2016 We previously told you about a few of the most common air conditioning problems Salt Lake City faces, but today we are here to tell you about some frequent air conditioning issues that you can help troubleshoot. The air conditioning system is on but not blowing cool air. If your air conditioning system is running but not truly cooling, you may need to have your refrigerant levels checked. Refrigerant is important to make sure the air coming out of your system is actually cool and keeps you comfortable. Low refrigerant is commonly a symptom of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged correctly. One way to see if you are low on refrigerant is to go to your A/C system and locate the two copper pipes. If the bigger pipe is “sweating” or covered in condensation, feel the pipe to see if it’s cold. If it is, you are likely good to go and won’t need more refrigerant. If you’re not positive or the pipe is not producing condensation and is not cold when you feel it, call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning and we’ll pay you a visit and check your refrigerant levels and discover why your system is not blowing cool air. Remember, only an EPA Certified technician should handle refrigerant for central A/C systems, due to the risks of handling this potentially dangerous chemical. You air condenser fan isn’t rotating. There are several reasons your condenser fan might not be turning. One is that it just burned out and you have to get a replacement. Humidity tends to cause more condensation so another issue to watch for is that the water is not draining properly or that the drain is hindered. If you can confirm these things, you may be able to find the trouble; but, if not, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call and we can determine what is keeping your condenser fan from circulating and walk you through your options to get your air conditioning problem resolved. Your air conditioning system is not providing adequate air cooling. The first step is to try lowering your thermostat. It seems silly but sometimes we tend to forget the obvious. If dropping the temperature doesn’t get your home cooling and comfortable again, check and get a new air filter. If the air filter is clogged, it could cause major cooling troubles. Another thing that could cause your lack of cooling is an air conditioner that is not sized accurately, and unfortunately this is a frequent issue when homes are designed. Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning is happy to come out and complete an analysis to confirm whether or not the size of your system is causing your problems. Air Conditioner shuts on and off over and over If your air conditioner is short cycling, or turning on or off consistently, it could mean one of a few things. One thing is that your condenser or evaporator is blocked or dirty and in need of cleaning. Once the system is cleaned and all blockages moved elsewhere, you may be back to a normal running air conditioner. Note that humidity also plays a role so if your house cools to the desired temperatures, but then the humidity causes the house to heat up quickly, this could cause an on-again, off-again AC because it’s having to work vigorously to keep your family cool and comfortable. No matter your problem, whatever typical or atypical AC issue you run into, Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning is here for you around the clock. We are available to you so we can get your air conditioner cooling and get your family comfortable quickly.
